I highly recommend this BBC documentary entitled:
Satoyama: Japan’s Secret Water Garden (2004)
Narrated by David Attenborough, the film showcases
a Japanese village which has adapted concomitantly
with their natural ecosystem.
If you are interested in Self-Sufficiency
this is well worth the watch.
from BBC:
“In the heart of rural Japan lies Satoyama, a landscape of lakes and rivers home to an incredible variety of fish, water birds, snakes and dragonflies. This poetic documentary follows 83-year-old fisherman Sangoro Tanaka, who lives according to an ancient way of life that has much to teach the world about sustainable living.” – Link to original quote
